The most powerful message your business has.

Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard tells the story of the Duck Church.

All the ducks waddle to church. The duck preacher gets up into the pulpit and gives a powerful sermon, “ducks, you have wings and you can fly. You can soar high above the clouds and ascend to places you’ve only ever dreamed of.” All the ducks quack ‘Amen’ as they hear this moving message.

Then they all waddle home again.

I was out walking with my wife this morning when she told me the story of a woman who was deeply into the whole wellness thing. She had apparently given it all up. The reason was all the people she new who practised it seemed so miserable.

If You Are Happy…

I know that some people won’t go near a church for much the same reason. One friend who lived near a church told me how he observed church goers each time there was a service. “They would go in smiling and come out looking unhappy… who wants to go to a place like that?” Ouch!

As one friend put it, “if you are really happy then perhaps tell your face!”

He has a point.

It’s one thing preaching about eternal life, or the wellness movement selling a better life, but if the proof isn’t there, it’s a hard sell.

This article is not a cheap dig at churches, or the wellness movement, the same can happen with the businesses we run. I have plenty of friends with deep faith who are happy and they tell their face!

Genuine Testimonials

The most powerful message our businesses have is testimonial.

Genuine testimonial from happy customers is far more potent than any promises we make. A testimonial is a promise delivered.

If we set out to not just satisfy our clients but delight them, then try stopping them from telling other people.

Unpaid evangelists talking about your brand… it’s the most powerful message your business can have.
